British guitarist, lutenist, musicologist, editor, and publisher who is among the handful of scholars today working to fill some of the long-standing musicological gaps in the history of the guitar. In 1997 he held the Curtis Mayes Orpheus Chair in Musicology at Florida State University, Tallahassee.
